Warcraft lore has always revolved around the conflict between the great cosmic forces.

Light.
Void.
Life.
Death.
Order.
Fel.

Traditionally, these forces are presented as rival powers fighting for control of the universe.

But if we look closely at the story arcs from Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and Shadowlands, another possibility begins to emerge.

The real conflict may not be about domination.

It may be about free will.

And at the center of everything stands Azeroth.

Azeroth: The Source of Free Will

One unusual pattern appears again and again in Warcraft lore.

Creatures from Azeroth seem capable of something extremely rare in the cosmic order:

They can interact with multiple cosmic forces without losing their identity.

Examples appear everywhere:

  • mortals wielding both Light and Shadow
  • elves using Arcane and Nature
  • individuals surviving contact with Fel, Death, or Void

In most cosmic domains this would be impossible.

Yet on Azeroth, it happens constantly.

This suggests that Azeroth may imbue its inhabitants with something unique.

Will.

A kind of independence from the rigid structures imposed by the cosmic forces.

What It Means to Be “Forged”

Many characters in Warcraft are transformed by cosmic powers.

But not all transformations are equal.

There is a fundamental difference between forced corruption and true forging.

Forced Transformation

When a cosmic force dominates or enslaves someone.

Examples include:

  • Arthas under Frostmourne
  • Gul’dan consumed by Fel
  • Night Warriors who die under Elune’s power
  • Lothraxion, seemingly “forged” by the Light

In these cases, the individual becomes an instrument.

Their will disappears then the «blindness» comes and means nothing more and nothing less than seeing only what the dominant force wants you to see.

True Forging

A true forging happens only when someone:

  • understands the power
  • accepts the consequences
  • chooses it willingly

The individual is changed, but their identity remains intact.

They become something new.

A champion not controlled by the force — but aligned with it.

The Forged of the Cosmic Forces

Following this logic, several characters appear to fit perfectly as voluntary champions of each cosmic force.

The pattern is striking.

  • Illidan — Fel
  • Alleria — Void
  • Sylvanas — Death
  • Anduin — Light
  • Tyrande — Arcane
  • Thrall — Nature

Each of them has undergone a profound transformation.

But crucially, they retain their will.

Illidan: The First to Understand

Illidan may be the character who understands this truth best.

When Xe’ra attempts to forcibly transform him into the Light’s chosen champion, Illidan rejects the transformation and declares:

“There can be no chosen one.”

This moment is more than defiance.

It is a philosophical statement.

Cosmic forces should not choose champions.

Individuals must choose their path themselves.

Illidan embraced Fel power knowing its consequences.

That choice is what truly forged him.

Sylvanas and the Fight Against the System

Sylvanas’ story becomes much more interesting through this lens.

Her original transformation into a banshee was forced.

But everything she later pursues revolves around breaking the cosmic system that controls life and death.

She seeks freedom from the structure that governs souls.

Even the Jailer seemed to pursue something similar: breaking the prison of the cosmic order.

If Azeroth truly embodies free will, this might explain something strange about the Forsaken.

Their independence may not simply come from the Lich King losing control.

It may come from Azeroth itself influencing them.

Alleria: Mastering the Void

Alleria represents one of the clearest examples of voluntary forging.

The Void normally consumes those who wield it.

But Alleria does something unique.

She listens to the Void.

Yet she refuses to submit to it.

She understands what it is, what it wants, and what it can do.

And she still chooses to use it.

Tyrande and the Incomplete Forging

Tyrande’s transformation into the Night Warrior is one of the most visually striking moments in Warcraft.

Her eyes change.

Her power grows darker.

But the transformation ultimately stops.

Why?

Because the process was imposed by Elune.

True forging cannot be forced, never, its by election how the «forge» happens.

If Tyrande never completes that path, other characters could potentially take that role.

Possible arcane candidates include:

  • Thalyssra
  • Azshara

Both deeply connected to arcane power.

Anduin: The Champion Forged by the Light

And who would represent the Light?

Not Turalyon.
Not Arator.

Anduin.

Anduin Wrynn has already experienced what many champions of the Light never truly face: the full weight of life.

Loss.
Loneliness.
Expectation.
Responsibility.

From a young age he has been forced to carry the burden of a king, a priest, and a symbol of hope for an entire kingdom.

We saw glimpses of this path during Battle for Azeroth, where Anduin struggled to balance compassion with the brutal reality of war. We saw it again in moments of spiritual revelation, where the Light did not simply answer his call — it challenged him.

Unlike many who wield the Light, Anduin does not see it as absolute certainty.

He questions it.

He doubts.

And yet he continues to choose it.

That is precisely what makes him different.

If the theory of the cosmic forges is true, then Anduin is not simply a priest or a king blessed by the Light.

He may be something more.

A champion forged by the Light through choice, not destiny.

And if that is the case, his role in the cosmic conflict may only just be beginning.

Thrall and the Voice of Azeroth

Thrall’s story has taken an unusual direction in recent expansions.

For years he was the most powerful shaman on Azeroth.

Then something changed.

Thrall stopped hearing the elements.

But there are hints that he still hears Azeroth itself.

This raises a compelling possibility.

Thrall may not be destined to represent the elements alone.

He may become the champion of Life or Nature.

Though another candidate could emerge: Orweyna.

The champion of nature may not yet be fully revealed. (but my personal choice is him)

Sargeras and the Fear of Order

This theory even reshapes how we view Sargeras.

Sargeras deliberately embraced Fel power, so maybe he was already the first Forged but in titan version.

He saw something terrifying in the cosmic future but not what The titans told to us…

So it was not the Void that frightened him most.

It may have been the possibility of a universe completely controlled by Order.

A cosmos where every outcome is predetermined.

A universe without freedom.

His rebellion against Aman’Thul might have been a reaction to that future and for this he choose fel and disorder, just the opposite forces to order. not by chance, be concious choice,

Why Did the Titans Leave Azeroth?

One mystery has always stood out in Warcraft lore.

The Titans discovered Azeroth — the most powerful world-soul they had ever encountered.

Yet they left.

Why abandon something so valuable?

One possibility is that Aman’Thul realized something dangerous, yes, the influence of the free will of Azeroth and it was already happening.

If Azeroth awakens fully, it may introduce free will even among the Titans themselves.

Something the force of Order could never fully control.

The Real Cosmic Prize

Every cosmic force seems to circle around the same objective.

Azeroth.

Because whoever controls Azeroth might control something far greater than power.

They might control will itself.

The ability of beings across the cosmos to choose their own destiny.

That would make Azeroth the most important entity in existence and the only one to allows their habitans not to be controlled.

The Final Champions

If this theory proves true, Azeroth is surrounded by individuals representing every cosmic force.

Not as servants.

But as beings forged through their own choices.

  • Illidan — Fel– Illidari – Orcs
  • Alleria — Void– shadow priest and – Void elves.
  • Sylvanas — Death– Deth knights and Forsaken.
  • Anduin or Arator — Light – Paladins and priest.
  • Tyrande or Azshara — Arcane– Nightborne , mages and druids.
  • Thrall or Orweyna — Nature_ Haranir – Taurens? druid and shamans.

And at the center of all of them stands Azeroth.

A world that may have introduced something the cosmos had never seen before.

The freedom to choose.

Pd:Special thanks to H3ndall and Saiztico, who were among the first to suggest that Azeroth might represent a power similar to free will.
